Believe The Hype: Homecoming Concert

THE CHALLENGE

Toby Shang, known across Nigeria as a hypeman and showman, set out to do something that had never been done before: headline his own full-scale concert. No hypeman had ever held the stage as a headline act in his own right. The brief was to build a production that could carry that weight: an artist-grade show, on his own home turf, for a 15,000+ crowd, with a lineup that included some of the biggest names in Afrobeats.

WHAT PHIZ DID

Commune Craft took on full production for the concert, end to end: stage design and build, technical production across sound and lighting, a multi-act run of show with more than a dozen acts to sequence and time, backstage and artist coordination for the full lineup, and live show-day command from gates-open to closing set. Every transition, every artist call time, and every technical cue was managed under one production team.

THE OUTCOME

The concert was executed cleanly for a crowd of 15,000+, and stands as the first-ever headline concert by a Hypeman in the world. It marked a genuine moment in Nigerian live entertainment: a hypeman commanding a stage, a lineup, and an audience on the scale of a headline artist, on the grounds of his own alma mater.
